The Longmont Symphony Orchestra (LSO) has announced its 2019-20 season, entitled “Music is Life.”  It is the 53rd season for the orchestra and the organization’s third season with Elliot Moore as music director.

For the 2019-20 season, the LSO will present six concerts at Vance Brand Civic Auditorium; a free July 4th concert at Thompson Park; a performance of Handel’s Messiah in December with the Longmont Chorale Singers; four chamber orchestra concerts at Longmont Museum’s Stewart Auditorium; two full performances of The Nutcracker with the Boulder Ballet, plus a shortened Gentle Nutcracker for individuals with special needs and their families; and a pair of concerts for all St. Vrain Valley School District 5th graders.

“Each of our concerts offers something unique for music lovers—whether it’s featuring artists with non-traditional solo instruments, as with Jennifer Higdon’s Percussion Concerto, or celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday with his ‘Eroica’ Symphony and LSO’s first-ever performance of Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony at Longmont Museum’s Stewart Auditorium,” said Elliot Moore, LSO’s music director. “In addition to our presentation of The Nutcracker with the Boulder Ballet, we’ve made our Gentle Nutcracker into an annual event. This, combined with our robust outreach in schools, 5th Grade Concerts, and a Family Concert—featuring the timeless classic Peter and the Wolf—shows how music can unite the entire spectrum of our community and touch people’s lives.”

Six-concert subscription packages go on sale on Monday, May 20 (call 303-772-5796). Box Office hours are 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Mondays; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; and closed on Wednesdays. Series package buyers receive up to 20% off single ticket prices. Single tickets for Main Series concerts are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors and active military, $5 for children/students ($10 for the Pops and Messiah performances).  All LSO Museum concerts are $35 (includes a glass of wine and post-concert reception). Handel’s Messiah tickets are $30 for adults; children/students $10. Family Concert tickets are $10. Single tickets go on sale on Monday, August 26 via phone and online at longmontsymphony.org
